Always think light first

Before choosing a plant, look at your home. Notice where sunlight enters, how long it stays, and whether it’s soft or harsh. Light controls growth speed, watering needs, and overall health.

  • More light → faster growth → more frequent watering
  • Less light → slower growth → less watering
  • Wrong light → weak stems, yellow leaves, or leaf burn
Rule of thumb: If you can comfortably read a book there during the day, many indoor plants can live there too.

Understanding window directions

East-facing

Gentle morning sun. Ideal for most indoor plants.

North-facing

Soft, indirect light. Good for low-light tolerant plants.

South-facing

Bright light for most of the day. Use sheer curtains for sensitive plants.

West-facing

Strong afternoon sun. Keep plants a little away from the glass.

  • 1–3 ft: Bright indirect light (ideal for most plants)
  • 3–6 ft: Medium to low light
  • 6+ ft: Low light only
